A bizarre ending to the Seminole Intercollegiate left Florida State men's golf coach Trey Jones trying to balance his emotions.

He was thrilled to claim the team trophy at the 14-team tournament. He was excited to watch senior Seath Lauer tie for medalist honors after 54 holes before losing on the fourth playoff hole.

But that joy was replaced by heartbreak when Jones learned that star sophomore Brooks Koepka, the nation's top-ranked player, was disqualified because of a scorecard error. Koepka made a mistake in recording his score on one hole and then signed the card, forcing an immediate disqualification. He would have finished third overall, one shot out of the lead. ERNIE Els shunned any bold US Masters predictions after breaking his two-year title drought with a commanding victory in the World Golf Championships event in Florida on Sunday.

Els, who had fallen to 20 in the rankings, felt relief more than exhilaration after beating his house guest, South African countryman Charl Schwartzel, to win the $A9.26 million CA Championship by four strokes.

'This means so much. I didn't think it was ever going to happen again,' Els said after producing a bogey-free, six-under-par 66 final round in a demanding breeze at Doral's Blue Monster.

Els finished at 18-under 270 with Schwartzel runner-up on 14-under after a final-round 70. Irishman Padraig Harrington, German Martin Kaymer and American Matt Kuchar tied for third, three shots further back. Read More >>>
